Anger Management

ANGER-MANAGEMENT

How to channel your anger and frustration effectively

Anger Management is linked to Stress Management in that it is an emotion can have a detrimental impact if not controlled effectively. Anger can affect different people in different ways. For some it can act as a motivational force, compelling a person to work more effectively but for others it can be destructive, and lead to problems both professionally and personally. Poorly monitored stress and anger levels can lead to health problems, depression, lack of focus at work and strained relationships at work.

The following are a few helpful hints to guide

Know-Your-Anger

Everybody experiences anger and angry feelings, some more often than others. The trick is to be aware of what triggers your anger. When you know these things, you will be better equipped to make decisions on how best to avoid the things that frustrate you or at least devise a plan that will help you channel your anger more effectively.

Form-A-Support-Network

When trying to tackle your anger issues, inform those around you of your efforts so they can become involved in the process too. They can be the important support network you will need to fall back on when things get heated. Be safe in the knowledge that you have someone to turn to when things get frustrating. What’s more, if you keep your friends and colleagues up to date on your efforts, then they will be more willing to look out for you and provide a much needed source of motivation when things start getting a little tough.

Take-The-Necessary-Steps

When you experience the onset of frustration or anger, don’t forget to implement the classic anger management steps. Don’t forget to pause, take a deep breath, rationalise the situation with yourself and avoid thinking negative thoughts.

Use-Humour-as-a-Remedy

Like the saying goes, laughter is the best remedy. Try not to take things so seriously all the times. If you learn to laugh at yourself and take things more lightly, there will be less room for stress and frustration in your life. Moreover, if a situation arises where you are angered or irritated, try to think about how inappropriate and silly angry behaviour would look during this time.

Listen!

Listening is a skill that has no disadvantages or causes any trouble. Only good things can come from listening and it’s no exception in a heated situation. By listening to the other side of the story in a heated debate will resolve the situation ten times more promptly than if you were to ignore the other parties grievances and opinions.

Be-Emphatic

Where other people are the cause of your anger, it is a good idea to firstly consider their feelings and also see things from their perspective.

Learn-To-Forgive

In order to make progress and move on from the situation and forgive those who have caused you anger or frustrated you. Though you may appear happier on the surface to those around you, you will need to make a resolution at a deeper level in order to make a more substantial and permanent change in both your professional and personal life.
